Different Materials Used In Swimming Pool Construction
While they are all made for the same purpose, not all swimming baths are the same. Particularly, they are not all made with the same materials. Different components are used to build them, depending on the owners\' budget and preference. To give you an insight as well as help you choose the best one, we have taken a look at the different materials used in the construction of in-ground swimming pools.
1. Gunite. This type is popular among homeowners because of its flexibility. It can be built into any shape, making the installation of unique features (such as custom steps and waterfalls) easier.
Now, to build a gunite pool, a whole is dug then the plumbing is put in place and a framework grid of reinforced steel rods (rebar) is assembled. When the supporting structure is secured, a heavy gunite coating, which is basically a mixture of cement and sand, is sprayed around the rebar. Once done, the surface is smoothened out and the finishing touches are applied. Plaster, concrete paint, or tiles are usually used.
2. Vinyl. This material is cheaper in comparison to other materials. What is more, it is easy to install. The downside though is that you cannot customise them that much, and replacing its damage liner can cost a lot. Nonetheless, it remains the top choice of many homeowners next to gunite.
To construct this bath, a frame wall that is made either of metal, plastic, or wood is assembled around the ground hole\'s parameter. Sand is laid at the bottom and vinyl is spread on the whole area with its lining secured to the structural wall.
3. Fibreglass. This is actually a fibreglass reinforced plastic moulded to form the shape of a large basin. It is pre-made and is directly installed into the ground.
Its construction can take just a day because all there is left for the crew to do is dig a hole, lay the plumbing, and then lower the preformed pool to the ground.
